Congratulations to the winners of the USCCB Eucharistic Revival Musical Competition, and in particular to our friend Kathy Pluth, whose new hymn text "Let the Earth Acclaim Christ Jesus" was selected from among well over 100 submitted works:

Sponsored by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) Secretariat for Evangelization and Catechesis, Catholic composers, poets, and songwriters were invited in January 2023 to submit creative entries spanning a hymn-writing category and a theme song category to give a fresh voice to the truths of our faith in ways that words cannot express.

The Eucharistic Revival Musical Competition has announced two winners–Kathleen Pluth for the hymn category and Diane Mahoney for the theme song category.

Award-winning songs will be featured at the 2024 National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis, used in liturgies and events marking the Eucharistic Revival in dioceses across the country, and will receive a $2,500 cash prize.

A Spanish version of these songs will also be composed for wider impact and celebration in the Church.

I hope the conference will post a sample score soon for parishes that would like to put the hymn into use.

Meanwhile, another hymn of Kathy's was selected in the Archdiocese of Detroit Hymnwriting Competition; that hymn, "God our Father, Ever Dwelling", was debuted at the cathedral in Detroit last Sunday for the observance of Corpus Christi:

So congratulations again to Kathleen Pluth on this well-deserved recognition!
