O Sanctissima in PDF

Would anyone have a good copy of the hymn "O Sanctissima" (with English verses also) in PDF, containing only the melody line? Attached to this message is the one I downloaded from the Vatican II Hymnal site, but it is in SATB. I am making a worship aid for this Friday's Mass and hope to have a version with only the melody. Thanks.

Official Latin hymns already translated in the LOTH?

Friends,

The four-volume American version of the Liturgy of the Hours contains many hymns that are unrelated to their respective Hours. The selections seem random, in fact (except for solemnities and feasts). I often wonder if there was ever an "approval" process, or if the publishers of the LOTH just threw in whatever they liked. Some of the hymns are, however, "official" Latin hymns in English.

Two such examples are in Volume I (Advent-Christmas):

Conditor alme siderum (pg. 126, Vespers in Advent, as Creator of the Stars of Night)
Vox ecce clara intonat (pg. 123, Lauds in Advent, as Hear the Herald Voice Resounding)

Are there any other liturgical Latin hymns translated within the American LOTH, that you're aware of? I'm asking for Volume number and page number, so I may compile a list. It would be appreciated. :)

Any suggestions for traditional hymns for Ordinary Time or Assumption written in a minor key? After doing Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence at Mass, our pastor has requested more hymns in minor keys.

Spanish traditional hymns

I am looking for solid Spanish hymns, ideally a collection of them. Most crucial are tunes suitable for Entrance and Final hymns, as Offertory and Communion will be Latin at this (low) Mass.

Months ago I had run across a hymnal on WLP's site that was said to contain familiar, sturdy German, English, and French tunes with Spanish texts. Now they do not carry this item, and the customer service folks I've spoken with have no memory of it. Can anyone help with this?

Hymntune 12.12.12.8

I'm looking for a hymn tune in 12.12.12.8 meter that is either familiar or easy to learn.

The only hymn tune I can think of in that meter is LAMBILOTTE (Panis Angelicus) though that might be an odd pairing of text and melody.

The hymn is for Vespers from the Common of Several Martyrs: Sanctorum meritis inclita guadia (Come, let us celebrate ever more joyfully).

We are using the Mundelein Psalter which does give a chant melody a the top of the page, but I'm afraid people won't pick it up easily in only one hearing without the words being set under the notes. Also this melody doesn't exactly match the LH nor Fr. Weber's new book so I'm somewhat reluctant to teach the tune as given.

Does anyone know of a text that would celebrate the motto of Pope Saint Pius X, "to restore all things in Christ"?

Thanks in advance!

Seasonal metrical hymn propers

Several years ago (and I think this was probably before Kathy started her own excellent project on the Introit antiphons), I put together a little collection of seasonal metrical hymns based on the antiphon & psalm texts prescribed in the Graduale Simplex for the Entrance and Offertory (and some of the Communios). I also supplemented these texts with some additional bits and pieces - the occasional hymn based on the Proper from the Graduale Romanum or sometimes the Roman Missal antiphon text. (A bit of a mix, I know, but I was experimenting.)

I came across them the other day. They are not doing a great deal of good just sitting in my hard drive so I thought it worth sharing in case they are of use to anybody.

I got as far as Advent and most of the Christmas season. The hymns usually run to 3 or 4 verses, and are generally penned by yours truly, but where I have used material by others (usually from the Scottish Psalter) I have referenced it.

My favourites are probably 6 (or 7 to "Love Unknown") and 12.

Thoughts welcome.

Organ Accompaniment for Canticle of the Sun

I'm being required to play Canticle of the Sun where I work because it is a "catchy tune" and maybe the people will sing it (yeah right!). Anyway, this written accompaniment for it is for the piano, and the music isn't the same as the sung melody in all parts. Due to this, it's much more difficult to sing while playing the organ, and that's something that I, unfortunately, have to do quite often. It's problematic to say the least.

So, I was wondering something... have people ever taken these types of songs and re-written the accompaniment into four parts, much like a typical hymn? You know, one in which people can listen to the organ and actually know how to sing it! Would it be considered copyright infringement to do so? It would be solely for my use.

Or, perhaps, there is such a thing that already exists?

This is a good site for music for the Divine Liturgy:
https://www.stanthonysmonastery.org/music/Index.html

Description:
This website contains more than 6000 pages of Byzantine music in Western and Byzantine notation in the style of chanting used on the Holy Mountain.

The scope of this project covers the liturgies of St. John Chrysostom, St. Basil the Great, St. James, and the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts, as well as various doxologies, and hymns for Vespers, Orthros, the Mysteries, and the Menaion. The words of the hymns are provided in Elizabethan English, Modern English, and Greek.

Hymn text: prayer of St. Michael the Archangel

Esteemed colleagues: I know many of you are hymn writers...I would like some feedback on my attempt at arranging the prayer of St. Michael for 7676D. I have in the mind the tune AURELIA and to use it as a recessional hymn, but I want it to be good enough.

Saint Michael the Archangel
Defend us in the fight.
And be for us protection
From Satan's wicked might.
Great Prince, through God's own power,
Cast into hell, we pray
All fallen angels seeking
For souls to lead astray.

15 Reasons Why We SHould Be Using Hymnals

Playable public domain hymns from major hymnals.

When developing A Catholic Organist's Book of Hymns, we selected useful public domain hymns from various hymnals without thinking of them as anything but a resource for us.

As a reminder, the COBH is a growing online resource of hymns arranged as music for organ (or keyboard or piano) in 4 parts, 3 parts and with chorale preludes for each hymn. It's a subscription service, $20 a year right now, with a price for parishes with more than one organist/pianist/keyboard player.

The 3 part hymns are easier to play than 4 part hymns.

Arranged so that a pianist can sit down and play them at the organ - they include registrations and rests for breath marks, something that should be in each hymn in a hymnal but are not...

The one page chorale preludes may be used weeks ahead of the first singing of a hymn to get it into the ears of your congregation and also as "Intonations" to introduce the hymn once your congregation and choir know the hymn.

Anyhow, people have been interested especially in the 3 part versions and chorale preludes, so we've pulled 126 of them out that represent the liturgical year in a book.

We should not be surprised then to find that most hymns in The Liturgical Year • 3 Part Hymns & Chorale Preludes [scroll down the page to see the cover and sample pages] may be found in the following hymnals in number, which pleases us - and hopefully you.

[UPDATE 11/2013 -- See below in thread for final version of text and a PDF of it set to CONDITOR ALME]

From ancient roots, a shoot will rise,
Full-blooming Wisdom of our God;
With perfect judgement in His eyes,
and perfect justice from His rod.

Abundant peace, like streams, shall flow,
Til stars and moon fall from the sky;
And all the lands and peoples know,
the Name of God, the Lord Most High.

A voice shall sing, "Prepare the Way,
Repent, and make His pathways clear!"
We dare not rest, dare not delay,
Salvation by our God is near.

The axe, as yet, awaits the tree,
The threshing floor awaits the fan.
Before His justice, none can flee;
Beneath His judgement, none can stand.

Prepare then well, and swiftly too,
For swifter still is God's own grace.
Prepare your heart to be made new,
Prepare your eyes to see His face.
